[Vince Rimmer]

All of my life, I have been surrounded by family in the property and construction industry; involved in development, renovation, property management, and hands-on construction in various trades. This sparked my own interest in the industry from an early age.

During school holidays I regularly assisted my Dad with small jobs, including plumbing and shop fitting. One of the first jobs I remember was installing a suspended ceiling in a Funeral Directors.

Growing up in Southport, I attended school at Scarisbrick Hall, which furthered my interest in architecture and buildings.

After completing my A levels at KGV in Southport, I studied Building Surveying at Liverpool John Moores University, graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying in 2009.

In the middle of my studies I gained my first surveying work experience with a summer placement at Grantley Lowe – Chartered Building Surveyors in Liverpool, where I returned after graduation for a large one-off Dilapidations contract across the East Anglia Railway network.

From 2010-2015 I worked at Paul Ennis & Company – Chartered Building Surveyors in Southport, starting as a Graduate Building Surveyor, gaining (MRICS) Chartered Building Surveyor and (CBuildE MCABE) Chartered Building Engineer status in 2013, and shortly after becoming the Senior Surveyor & Manager of the Surveying firm. This role developed my surveying skills, particularly in defect analysis, and gave me great insight into the day to day running of a Surveying Practice.

In late 2015 I joined Anderton Gables – Project and Building Consultancy (Chartered Building Surveyors) in Preston. I was able to gain greater experience in working with commercial buildings and develop a specialism in Neighbourly Matters, dealing with Party Wall, Rights of Light and other neighbourly issues. I was later promoted to Head of Neighbourly Matters and became a member of the North West committee for the Pyramus and Thisbe (p&t) club for Party Wall Surveyors. In 2019 I became Fellow of the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors and the only approved ‘Third Surveyor’ in Lancashire. I further enhanced my surveying skills by achieving the Advanced Professional Award in Expert Witness Evidence, also in 2019.

Following gaining Chartered status, I enrolled as an RICS APC Mentor to assist Building Surveying candidates working towards qualification. In 2017 I became an APC Assessor, examining candidates against the stringent RICS criteria required to qualify as a Chartered Building Surveyor.

During the Coronavirus crisis I was placed on furlough. Having always harboured the ambition to set up my own Surveying Practice, and due to the uncertainty in the job market, I decided that this was the time to take the leap and set up Propvisory – Chartered Building Surveyors.
